A beautiful fairy tale at the end of the school year at the Manzoni Institute in Maracalagonis: Michela Lallai, 13 years old, presented herself before the examination commission for the middle school diploma with a thesis on the typical Sardinian costume and for the occasion she also wore the traditional dress of his country.

«I cared a lot. For almost four years - says the student - I have been part of the Sant'Antonio folklore association. A great passion of mine, aimed entirely at contributing to preserving and proposing our traditions."

At the eighth grade exam, Michela was accompanied by a friend, Claudia Farci, who wore su bistiri 'e spensu (dress used for weddings and on holidays), adorned with Sardinian filigree jewels.

Michela instead wore the "abbodrau" skirt, the dress with the shawl (sciallu de seda), the cotton shirt, the red velvet bodice, and gold braid, the pocket and the gold jewels: rings, earrings ( arrecadas), the necklace (cannaca), the pendant (lasu) and the daisy-shaped brooches.

«To the judging commission – Michela continues – I explained that the traditional dress is much more than a simple item of clothing: it is a symbol of identity, culture and history».

At his side, the Italian teacher, Giovanna Fancellu, supervisor of the thesis: «There was a lot of curiosity during the discussion on the part of the teachers who showed an extraordinary interest in everything».

A beautiful story that also made the head teacher Emanuela Lampis and the mayor Francesca Fadda happy: «Congratulations to Michela – said the first citizen – her essay says everything about her love for the traditions of our home.
