The bomb dating back to the First World War found on 19 September in Viale San Vincenzo in Cagliari was detonated this morning.

The operations were carried out by the specialists of the 5th sapper engineer regiment of the "Sassari" Brigade at the “ex. Felsarda Spa” by Maracalagonis.

The remnant was a 260 mm artillery grenade. This was reported by some workers engaged in the maintenance of public green areas in the area that houses the offices of the municipality's department of public education and youth policies.

After being made safe, the bomb was transported to the "Mereu" quarry in Quartu Sant'Elena to await the green light for the blasting operations, which ended at 10.39 this morning.

The intervention of the bomb disposal squad of the 5th bomb disposal engineer regiment of Macomer required the eviction of citizens for a radius of one and a half kilometers from the blasting site (the eviction order had been signed by the mayor Francesca Fadda) and the use of a particular ignition technique aimed at minimizing the effects of the explosion.
