A painting of Saint Charbel Makhlouf, a Lebanese monk and priest, has been an integral part of the Church of the Missionary Madonna for a few days now. The work, which depicts Padre Pio of Lebanon, was created by the artist Cristian Soru from Ottana, married in Macomer, who lives and works in Cagliari. He donated it to the parish and its pastor, Father Andrea Rossi, as a sign of gratitude and appreciation for the town, the capital of the Marghine region.
The painting was placed at the sides of the altar, clearly visible to the audience. The delivery took place during Sunday Mass in front of hundreds of people. The parish priest expressed his gratitude to the artist from Ottana. Cristian Soru recounts: "There are no photographs of the saint. This icon I painted is the result of a photo taken by a group of pilgrims at his shrine in Lebanon. When they developed the photo, the image was imprinted on the figure of a monk, which is that of Saint Charbel. I wanted to donate my painting to the church of Macomer because I know how devout the parish priest, Father Andrea Rossi, is, but also to the Lebanese people, tormented by the war. The relics of the saint have been in Sardinia for some time, in Pirri, in the church of Saint Gregory the Great, along with other Maronite saints, where I often attend Mass." Cristian Soru's donation was greatly appreciated by Father Andrea Rossi, who praised the initiative during the Mass.
