Traffic on state road 131, near Macomer, was blocked for over an hour in both directions due to two major fires which are affecting two distinct areas where three helicopters and a canadair are operating.

The more consistent one is at the crossroads for Mulargia, in the Campeda plateau, while the other is affecting the area of Santa Barbara, opposite the capital of Marghine. The flames, in both cases, started right from the street.

Clouds of smoke immediately invaded the road and also the town of Macomer, darkening the sky. Driven by a light breeze, the flames have already destroyed about ten hectares of pastures and partly also the areas covered by thick vegetation and where there are several farms.

In some cases the shepherds had to move the livestock amidst a thousand dangers, keeping them safe. The flames still rage, even as ground and flight firefighting teams operate.
