It was three in the morning of May 25, 1922 when Enrico Berlinguer, one of the most influential and beloved politicians of the twentieth century, was born in Sassari.

The unforgettable secretary of the Communist Party is celebrated this morning at the University of Sassari with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella , the ministers of the Maria Cristina Messa University and of Youth Policies Fabiana Dadone and the Berlinguer family with their daughters Bianca ( with her husband Luigi Manconi), Laura (with her husband Luca Telese) and Maria and her son Marco.

THE CEREMONY - Mattarella arrived at the University of Sassari a few minutes before 11 for the ceremony at the University where Berlinguer enrolled in the Faculty of Law. To welcome him the president of the Region Christian Solinas, the mayor of Sassari Nanni Campus and the   Commissioner of the Province of Sassari Pietro Fois .

At the entrance to the cloister Mattarella, accompanied by the minister of the University Maria Cristina Messa, was greeted by the song in Sardinian language "Su patriotu sardu a sos feudatarios" with its incipit as "Procurade 'e moderare" written in 1795 during the uprisings Sardinian revolutionaries.
