An inmate attempted to strangle a prison officer and then attacked other officers before being subdued. The report about the incident in Uta prison comes from the SAPPE.

"The perpetrator," explains Luca Fais, secretary for Sardinia of the autonomous prison police union, "is the same inmate who committed the same criminal act last month, causing physical harm to several officers who, as a result, to date, and after surgical interventions, have not returned to duty."

In recent days, Fais continues, "the inmate in question attempted to attack the inspector during a search, then locked himself inside his cell and prevented the officers from entering. At the same time, he repeatedly threatened the police officers who intervened to clear the cell entrance, first attempting to strangle one officer and then, once the other backup officers arrived, violently lunged at them, causing a colleague to suffer suspected broken ribs. The inmate then sought treatment at the city emergency room."

The union representative emphasizes that "once again, all these attacks by the same repeat offender can no longer be tolerated." "Whoever attacks a police officer, a member of the police force, attacks the State," denounces Donato Capece, general secretary of the SAPPE.
