The first Caretta caretta nest of 2022 in Sardinia is officially the one discovered on Friday 9 July on the Lido di Orrì in Tortolì, in Ogliastra . This was announced by Cres - Sinis Recovery Center - which is monitoring the situation of the 73 eggs laid by the turtle in broad daylight, in front of the eyes of some German tourists, less than 5 meters from the shoreline during a storm.

"CNR, Coordination of the Regional Network and Forestry Corps, by mutual agreement have decided to move the nest to a safer area , almost 20 meters away from the shore, not far from the original point - explains Cres - Now we will constantly monitor the area for the entire duration of the incubation ".

Normally the average incubation period of the eggs is about 50 days and the young take between 4 and 7 days after hatching to emerge from the sand and reach the water.
