The Oristano Local Health Authority (ASL) has provided clarification on the sad story of a Terralba family who last Sunday was unable to find a doctor to certify their loved one's death , as highlighted by Mayor Sandro Pili.
A statement from the general management stated that it had "already addressed the problem highlighted by the mayor of Terralba, which stems from a shortage of general practitioners and the disruption of the ongoing care service, formerly the medical emergency service."
The ASL itself announced that it "has instructed the responsible structures to work to overcome this problem through greater integration among professionals present in the area, so as to prevent similar incidents from occurring."
The unfortunate situation arose because the emergency medical service was unavailable without anyone notifying them. And they couldn't leave nearby Marrubiu because of the regulations.
The issue was later resolved thanks to the intervention of Dr. Mimmo Licandro, a retired Ascot physician, who certified the patient's death.
