It cannot be said – for the moment – that Sardinia has overcome the drought emergency, but there is one positive fact. It is the one relating to water reserves, which have grown by almost 90 million cubic meters in the last month: an increase that means that the level has returned overall above the psychological threshold of 50%. With the rains, expected for next weekend as forecast , which give hope both in the North and in the South of the Island.

The latest reservoir bulletin, relating to the month of February just ended, indicates that in Sardinia there have been 994.41 million cubic meters of water in the dams, equal to 54.5% of the available volume . The increase is 88 million cubic meters compared to the end of January, when the reserves reached 49.6%, or 906.25 million cubic meters of reservoirs.

The reality, however, is far from positive: overall, the alert for the water emergency in Sardinia, through the status indicator equal to 0.19, remains at the danger level . "The supply must be reduced on average, according to the priority categories of uses, to proactively manage the possible persistence of the dry period and at the same time the planned mitigation measures must be activated", the note.

The general situation is improving in Nuorese and Baronia, while it is worsening in Sulcis. In particular, there is an emergency in the Alto Cixerri water system where the Punta Gennarta and Medau Zirimilis basins are at 14% of their capacity. The north-western water system (Coghinas, Bidighinzu, Cuga and Temo) is not happy either, where the status indicator is below the regional average (0.17) and the filling is at 44.8%. Some more suffering also for the Tirso-Flumendosa with the reservoirs full at 51.8%. The only territory in Sardinia that is smiling is Gallura, at least all those municipalities fed by the Liscia dam which is 74.9% full .
