THE EXPERT - For Ferdinando Coghe, health director of the University hospital of Cagliari and head of his laboratory of analysis: "These are worrying numbers, even if the data of hospitalizations, while growing, show that the vaccine remains an excellent shield, especially if the doses are three. Moreover, the infected with three doses are almost all asymptomatic, only in exceptional cases do they end up in hospital and, even less, lose their lives. If we compare the number of infections and hospitalizations with last year's data - Coghe points out - it immediately catches the eye that the vaccine has drastically reduced serious and fatal cases. And that in many families where there is an immunized person with two doses who contracts the virus, those who have three do not almost always get infected despite living together. The vaccine is decisive ".
"We have to wait about ten days to see if the number of hospitalizations increases - warns Coghe - because we have just spent Christmas with the increase in contacts for dinners and the new infected are usually not serious at the onset of the disease".
OMICRON IN CAGLIARI - Meanwhile, five other cases of Omicron have been discovered in the laboratory of the Aou of Cagliari, and also the tests of seven other infections, identified before Christmas at the Aou of Sassari, were positive for the new variant. Confirmations on the island thus rise to an altitude of 17, while verification is being carried out on another forty suspected swabs.
