In Macchiareddu the Conti Vecchi road reopens: there is the longest luminescent cycle path in Europe
New doubled artery. Porru (Cacip): «Answer given to the requests of the companies»The Conti Vecchi di Macchiareddu road reopens to traffic: following the order signed by Anas, from 4 pm the exit ramp on Strada statale 195, near the Sa Illetta area, and the junction of Strada provinciale 2, near the Syndial industrial plant, will be passable again. The doubling of the road that runs alongside the Santa Gilla lagoon, which connects Cagliari to the industrial area and to Assemini, carried out by Cacip, is combined with the opening of the cycle path that lights up at night thanks to a photoluminescent coating capable of guaranteeing a fluorescent surface in the dark: at 3 kilometers, it is the longest cycle/pedestrian path with this particular characteristic in Europe. The work cost just under 7 million euros. The work lasted three years.
The new link road and the cycle path were built on the existing service route of the power line and the aqueduct: to protect air quality, both in terms of emissions into the atmosphere and environmental noise, a sound-absorbing road surface was used with the use of a photocatalytic emulsion. In addition, out of respect for animals, concrete crossings and barriers were set up to make the transit of amphibians and small species safe, and to prevent any crossing of the road surface.
"Companies have long been asking for a road system that is up to the standards of this industrial area," explains Barbara Porru, president of the Cagliari Industrial Consortium, "with the doubling of the Conti Vecchi, travel times are shortened and the distance between all the strategic points of the capital and Macchiareddu is reduced. We are also very satisfied to have created a cycle/pedestrian path immersed in a beautiful landscape like the Santa Gilla lagoon, which thanks to the use of special materials is transformed into a luminescent track."
Franco Serra, Rup of the project, clarifies: «It is important to point out that this route, already crossed daily by about five thousand vehicles, cannot be considered an alternative to the Strada statale 195, because it is certainly not able to support the same amount of traffic. The cycle path created, which will connect to a much larger project of the Region, is unique in Sardinia».
