"Raised pedestrian crossings, narrowing of the roadway and, where necessary, even closing to traffic during certain time slots. Each solution will be designed to protect the youngest and those who travel on foot or by bike as much as possible."
The announcement comes from the Cagliari city councilor for traffic, Yuri Marcialis, who speaks on behalf of the entire Palazzo Bacaredda in the aftermath of the death of Betraice Loi, which occurred yesterday at the Brotzu hospital, 24 hours after she was hit on Viale Colombo , Saturday morning, while she was going to school at the nearby Liceo Alberti.
"Road safety is an absolute priority for Cagliari", assures the member of the Board Zedda, "the Board and the entire City Council are fully aware of this issue, for this reason - from the very beginning - we have taken the problem to heart and are working to guarantee safer roads for all citizens".
Marcialis assures interventions, but adds: «We know that it is not enough to intervene on the infrastructure: it is essential to promote greater awareness and adequate road education, so that all users - pedestrians, cyclists and motorists - can coexist in a safe and respectful way».
At the same time, the administration is working "to reduce the number of private cars in circulation, encouraging more sustainable mobility, both public and private. Fewer cars and more public transport not only mean less traffic and less pollution, but also a safer and more citizen-friendly urban environment. Cagliari", he concludes, "can and must be a city where safety and sustainable mobility go hand in hand".
