Emergency on the Costa Smeralda cruise ship off the coast of Sardinia.
The alarm was triggered due to the illness felt by a passenger, a 79-year-old Icelandic, who was rescued by the Coast Guard. Having reached the ship, about 10 nautical miles south west of Cape Teulada, a helicopter arrived from the Decimomannu area base. The soldiers, in collaboration with the on-board staff, transferred the doctor and the patient using the stretcher and a winch and then headed to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari where the passenger was entrusted to the care of the doctors.
The Costa Smeralda traveled the Palma de Mallorca-Palermo route.
