Two medical doctors from Ossi accused for the death of Roberto Pais, 51, the first victim of Covid in northern Sardinia, the eighth on the island. The crime hypothesis is that of manslaughter.

According to the indictment, in March 2020 Pais accused the symptoms of the disease but, unable to get in touch with his doctor, he turned to the emergency medical service. He was then prescribed antibiotics, but within a week his condition deteriorated. The family managed, after several requests, to get a 118 ambulance to intervene which transported Pais to the hospital in Sassari. Here, after six days, the 51-year-old died on a bed in the intensive care unit.

For his death, the family and the Prosecutor's Office point the finger at the two medical guards, who would not have investigated the patient's clinical picture and would not have reported the case to 118 and to the local crisis unit that should have carried out the diagnostic swab to check coronavirus positivity.

Today the gup of the court of Sassari, Carmela Rita Serra, postponed the preliminary hearing, setting the date of the interrogation of the two defendants for April 6, 2022.

The public prosecutor Paolo Piras has already solicited for both the indictment of both, while the wife and children of the victim have filed a civil action.
