Gutturu Mannu Park is preparing to welcome families and groups of friends for its traditional Easter Monday celebration, presenting itself with a new look following a series of interventions aimed at improving the area's safety and usability. After a particularly rainy winter, which left many roads in poor condition and difficult to navigate, significant restoration work has been completed to the internal roads. At the same time, the picnic areas have undergone significant renovation, with the furniture completely renovated. This project effectively marks the beginning of a new era for the Park, now accessible again in all its main areas.
Visitors will be able to choose between safe strolls along the woodland trails or relaxing outdoors, enjoying meals at picnic tables and rest stops in the designated areas, fully enjoying the landscape and surrounding vegetation. The work has focused particularly on the towns of Fanebas (Assemini), Santa Lucia (Uta), and Figueras (Santadi). The large, muddy puddles that plagued the trails in recent months have given way to accessible, safe roads for people of all ages. The work was carried out in collaboration with Forestas, with the goal of restoring full accessibility to the entire area. "While awaiting the major project to renovate the Park's roads," explains President Walter Cabasino, "we are focusing on smaller but significant interventions. Restoring recreational spaces to the communities and resolving the critical issues with some trails means allowing everyone to enjoy the beauty of our mountains. The synergy between the Park and Forestas is crucial."
Satisfaction also comes from local administrators. Giacomo Porcu, mayor of Uta and former president of the Park, emphasizes that "making the most beautiful corners of this immense nature reserve accessible is a step towards full enjoyment of the area. The fact that this is happening already by Easter is particularly significant." Mario Puddu, mayor of Assemini, echoes this sentiment: "Allowing people to reach highly valuable places like Fanebas means strengthening the relationship between communities and the territory, an aspect that was previously overlooked but is now increasingly central." Finally, Massimo Impera, mayor of Santadi, encourages visitors to rediscover the Figueras area: "The picnic area has been completely renovated, with new tables and benches. After so long, every sign of decay has been eliminated, and families will be able to enjoy these spaces again starting Easter Monday." The Park, therefore, reopens its doors with a focus on safety and hospitality, ready to once again become a hub for leisure and connection with nature.
