"Humanity and balance are needed in the face of grief; the CSM must examine the matter further." Grief and condolences, but not only, are felt in the Tempio court: the final hearing in the Grillo trial was cancelled this morning due to a grave bereavement affecting the presiding judge, Judge Marco Contu, who lost his 22-year-old son. This family tragedy forced a halt to the proceedings, shared by all parties.
The resumption of work, or rather, its timing, sparked a controversy that reached the Supreme Judicial Council.
The case was raised by lay member Enrico Aimi, a lawyer: "First of all, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and to Dr. Marco Contu. It is shocking, based on what we have learned from press reports, which we would like to dismiss as unfounded," he continued, "that even the suggestion of postponing the trial two days after the terrible accident was made. At this time, it is unclear who made this request , which at first sight appears cold and inhumane."
According to Aimi, the Superior Council of the Judiciary "has a duty to examine this extremely delicate matter further, especially since one of the primary requirements a magistrate must possess is in doubt, especially if he or she holds managerial and semi-managerial positions: balance.
In the next few hours I will submit a “request to open a case” to the Presidency Committee.
