The last few weeks of vacation for Italian students. In Sardinia, the return to classes is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th, as are in Abruzzo and Basilicata.

The first bell will ring for students in the autonomous province of Bolzano (September 7th) , followed on the 10th by those in the autonomous province of Trento, Valle d'Aosta, and Veneto. However, individual schools, based on their autonomy, can modify and adapt the calendar established by the Regions by a few days based on their own needs.

Moving on to holidays and any long weekends , here are the "mandated" closure days for the 2026/27 school year: October 4, 2026, St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy; November 1, All Saints' Day; December 8, Immaculate Conception; December 25 and 26, Christmas and Boxing Day; January 1, 2027, New Year's Day; January 6, Epiphany; March 29, Monday after Easter; April 25, Liberation Day; May 1, Labor Day; June 2, Republic Day.

This year, some holidays fall on weekends, so there are no long weekends on October 4th and November 1st, 2026 (they fall on Sundays), nor on April 25th, 2027 (also on Sunday), while May 1st falls on a Saturday . A long weekend is possible, however, on the occasion of the Immaculate Conception, which this year falls on a Tuesday.
