This morning, Grillo's trial for the gang rape of an Italian-Norwegian student and her friend, which allegedly occurred at Grillo's villa on the Costa Smeralda, resumed in Tempio Pausania.

The president of the court, Marco Contu, gave the floor to Mariano Mameli, the lawyer representing Edoardo Capitta (defendant along with Ciro Grillo, Francesco Corsiglia, and Vittorio Lauria).

Mameli immediately raised the central issue of the trial and the investigation. During the investigation into the alleged rape of July 2019, particularly in the very early stages, the victim was never interviewed with the guarantees of a preliminary hearing. Mameli said: "The alleged victim was the first witness and should have been interviewed immediately. First, in this courtroom. Instead, the other witnesses were interviewed first. Why did this happen? Why?" Mameli is insisting on this point: "There are elements that undermine the authenticity of the memory."

Mameli spoke about his client's condition: "Edoardo Capitta coaches a parish team in Genoa, and from the stands, every now and then someone shouts 'Capitta, rapist.' There has been and continues to be tremendous external pressure. The safety of those involved has been put at risk." Mariano Mameli thanked the judges for their firmness in rejecting the exploitation.

Mameli's speech could last several hours. It's possible that the trial against Ciro Grillo, Edoardo Capitta, Vittorio Lauria, and Francesco Corsiglia could reach a verdict today.
