The Fishermen's Village is united in the battle to say no to the construction of the LNG (liquefied natural gas) storage plant, which should be built a few meters from the village. After the recent request - the third - from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security towards the Sardinia Region, with the aim of receiving the green light for the resolution for the realization of the Sardinia LNG project, the inhabitants of the village gathered again in Giorgino square, to express their disappointment and opposition. With them various associations, including Sardegna Pulita, Assotziu Consumadoris Sardigna, DonneAmbiente Sardegna and No Tyrrhenian Link.

The protest

«There is no reason to build a regasification terminal behind our houses, it would create big risks for the whole of Cagliari as well as for us», is the warning from Mariano Strazzeri, president of the Villaggio Pescatori Neighborhood Committee. «There is a lot of talk about wanting to enhance the lagoon, but then a project like this is allowed: it makes no sense, especially in a historic village of the city and one kilometer as the crow flies from Via Roma. Think about what would happen in the event of an accident: the entire area of the Port, Sant'Avendrace and the entire part of Cagliari overlooking Giorgino would be exposed. We ask for a meeting with the institutions, after having already had discussions with the mayor of Cagliari Massimo Zedda and the president of the Sardinia Region Alessandra Todde, to explain the situation and find a solution".
