Giancarlo Muntoni is the new extraordinary commissioner of the Asinara National Park.

He was appointed by decree of the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security last August 9th. She takes over from Gabriella Scanu, whose mandate expired on 2 March.

Muntoni, until December 2022, the date of his retirement, was director of the Forestry Inspectorate of Sassari of the Forestry Corps and before that, he held the same position in the Forestry Inspectorate of Tempio. An experienced man with a leading curriculum therefore arrives to manage the structure in via Ponte Romano: degree in Agricultural Sciences and numerous top positions at the Assessorate for the Defense of the Environment of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.

He has dealt with planning, scheduling and coordination of complex structures related to land management, prevention and repression of illegal behavior and activities, prevention and fight against forest fires, defense of the soil from erosion, protected areas with particular reference to the parks of the Asinara, Porto Conte and the La Maddalena Archipelago.

Various tasks carried out: coordinator of the Integrated Program of the SS21 “Riviera di Gallura” area; Extraordinary Commissioner and Liquidator of the Alghero Autonomous Stay and Tourism Company. He was also Councilor of the Order of Doctors of Agronomy and Forestry of the Province of Sassari and, from 2007-2009 - president of the same Order. He has collaborated in the drafting of various articles and technical-scientific publications in environmental matters and the prevention of forest fires. Numerous reports in regional and national conferences and attended professional training courses.

«What I would like to underline», declared the new commissioner, «is the will to work to sensitize the citizens' interests towards the vast territory which is directly or indirectly included in the Asinara Park. In this sense, my commitment will be directed mainly to the protection and conservation of biodiversity, the landscape and the cultural and historical values that the Park represents with its centuries-old history".
