UIL Sardinia has seen a change in leadership : Fulvia Murru has been elected the union's new regional secretary . A 50-year-old healthcare worker with a degree in political science and a degree in nursing, Murru has been active in the union movement for twenty years and previously served as national secretary of public health . She succeeds Maria Francesca Ticca and will lead an all-female secretariat, composed of Elena Carta and Carla Meloni. The election was unanimous. The new regional treasurer, Giovanni Maria Cuccu, has also been appointed.

Murru returns to Cagliari, where she served as regional secretary of the Civil Service, after four years . "I approach this role with great emotion," she said. "It's a significant challenge; there are many issues we need to revitalize: from industry, to sustainable construction, to the education system, to desertification. We have a mobility system that doesn't work, not only from the island to the mainland, but also for internal mobility."

According to the new secretary, the time has come for self-criticism. "The union must make itself available to the political side to find shared solutions," Murru said. "It's time for participation. We will ask the Regional Council for a timetable of interventions to effectively resolve the issues. Enough talk, we need action." According to the new UIL secretary, "the issue of healthcare must be addressed immediately because we have a healthcare and social system in Sardinia that doesn't work: long waiting lists, full hospitals. We need to invest and give Sardinians the healthcare and social system they deserve."
