A blow. Yet another. Bringing Sardinian road haulage closer to the brink. Starting June 1st, new price increases for freight traffic will be implemented: starting at eight euros per linear meter and reaching 17, depending on the route and shipping company . The "communication" from shipowners is "urgent." In the letters sent to "freight sector customers," the subject line is paired with "tariff adjustment – bunker surcharge." In other words, the high fuel prices are being shunted onto Sardinian companies.
For example, to transport goods from Olbia to Livorno, one of the most popular routes, the current ticket price is around €660. With the new rates and considering the standard length of the semi-trailer, the cost range for Sardinian companies ranges from a minimum of €108 to a maximum of €231.
Confapi, the Confederation of Small and Medium-Sized Private Industries, has no doubts: "The situation is getting out of hand. The Regional Council must waste no more time and intervene." And Confindustria has no doubts either: "Price increases are out of control."
