The prison sentence for Alessio Tonzanu, the 19-year-old accused of stabbing a minor on Sunday night in Sassari , has been confirmed. The decision by investigating judge Giuseppe Grotteria came at the conclusion of the validation hearing, which was held this morning via live link from the prison where the young man has been held for two days.
Tonzanu, defended by the lawyer Gianluigi Poddighe, availed himself of the right to remain silent before the judge and the prosecutor Giovanni Dore but provided spontaneous statements .
Expressing his sorrow for the victim, who had been stabbed twice, one in the side and the other in the thigh, Tonzanu said: "I defended myself. I was hit by several boys with belts and straps."
According to an initial reconstruction, the fight began inside the Le Iene club, from which the youths were allegedly evicted, and then continued between Via Sorso and Via Marghinotti, involving about ten youths . Premeditation has been ruled out because, according to reports, the victim and attacker did not know each other. Tonzanu is charged with attempted murder and brawling.
