The monitoring campaign for the 2026 bathing season in Sardinia concluded in September. The checks conducted by ARPAS (the regional environmental protection agency) covered 664 bathing waters, distributed along 1,553 kilometers of coastline, equal to 62% of the regional coastline.

"The main finding is positive," ARPAS reports, "99.4% of the bathing water samples monitored were found to be compliant with legal limits for the two microbiological parameters tested: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci."

The activities lasted from April 7th to September 16th. A total of 4,073 samples were collected during the season. Microbiological analyses were performed by the laboratories in Cagliari and Sassari totaling 8,146. "There were 24 exceedances of legal limits during the entire season, affecting 19 of the 664 bathing waters located in 12 coastal municipalities. Of these , only two bathing waters were affected by persistent pollution ."
