Since July, doctors, radiology technicians, nurses, and other radiotherapy professionals at the Businco Oncology Hospital have been offering additional services until 11 p.m. and on Saturdays, to reduce waiting times and ensure more timely access to cancer care for all patients.

The Fials union announced: "Despite the regular operation, however, the payment situation remains critical," stated territorial secretary Giampaolo Cugliara. "At the end of October, according to available information, only the wages for the months of June and July had been paid, and that after repeated reminders. Subsequent monthly payments remain unpaid, despite the project's continuation."

In May, Arnas Brotzu authorized the project until December 31, 2026, providing compensation of €50 per hour for healthcare staff and €100 for medical management. The Regional Council subsequently established rates for additional services, notifying healthcare companies of the need to adjust their respective provisions. According to reports, healthcare staff will continue to receive the €10 rate increase for each additional hour of work.

Fials asks Brotzu to provide timely responses regarding outstanding payments , rate adjustments, and to verify, based on applicable documents, whether staff are entitled to reimbursement for unpaid sums.

"The willingness and sense of responsibility of healthcare professionals have allowed us to continue this essential service for cancer patients to this day, and despite everything, to the project's completion, and in the future if necessary. This commitment, however, must be accompanied by compliance with financial obligations and the proper application of administrative and contractual provisions."
