The ministerial decree imposing public service obligations for scheduled air services on the routes Alghero-Rome Fiumicino, Alghero-Milan Linate, Cagliari-Rome Fiumicino, Cagliari-Milan Linate, Olbia-Rome Fiumicino, and Olbia-Milan Linate has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
This is a further step in the process of implementing the new territorial continuity system which, in the new model developed by the Todde administration, provides for:
- a greater timetable in four bands (6:00-9:00, 9:00-13:00, 13:00-18:30, 18:30-23:00), to ensure return on the same day
- Reduced fares for residents: approximately 30 euros per journey to Rome and 44 euros to Milan, excluding VAT and airport taxes.
- Reduced rates for non-residents with family ties up to the third degree or those involved in caring for family members
- a stable increase in frequencies and seats, Reduced rates for residents
- Discounts also available for workers with a permanent residence in Sardinia and non-professional competitive athletes, and maximum rates guaranteed all year round for non-resident workers travelling for work reasons.
"Nine months have passed since the new European Commission took office in December 2024. That's the time needed to negotiate with the European Union the changes to the rules that will allow the new tender process," commented Governor Alessandra Todde. "From today, we're no longer just talking about proposals, but about rules written in black and white that guarantee fairer connections, more equitable tariffs, and greater opportunities for all Sardinians. We have always believed that territorial continuity was not a privilege but a sacrosanct right of Sardinia."
"Despite criticism and attempts to downplay its importance," Todde continues, "we have worked resolutely to ensure we receive what we deserve. It's a tool we use to defend insularity, combat depopulation, and give young people, families, and businesses the opportunity to stay, grow, and compete."
"Now the next step will be the regional tender," the governor concludes. " This result strengthens the rights of Sardinians, creates opportunities, and looks to the future of a connected and leading Sardinia."
