They are called Joint Stars 2023 (Jost 23) and "Noble Jump 2023" (Noju 23): these are the gigantic exercises that will be staged this spring in the Capo Teulada shooting range and in the other military areas of Sardinia. The second is from NATO. These are "extraordinary opportunities" thanks to the "positive economic impact on the area that the presence of thousands of people will ensure with the supply of meals, laundry services, building works to improve accommodation". But also for tourism because "foreign personnel, after visiting our territories, can then return to the island for private reasons and for pleasure".

The leaders of the Armed Forces on the island are sure of it. The quotation marks are taken from the minutes of the last meeting of Comipa, the joint joint committee on military servitude, called to express itself on the calendar of exercises for the first semester of the current year. The admiral of division Fabio Agostini and the brigadier general Stefano Scanu intervened respectively to defend the effectiveness of the military operations.

The heart of the meeting was reached when Agostini took the floor «for the illustration of the national joint exercise "Joint Stars 2023" (JOST 23) and international "Noble Jump 2023" (NOJU 23),
planned for the months of April and May.

It was underlined "that the need for the Armed Forces to train derives from the need to always be ready and effective to face any
threat relating to the security and protection of the territory and to the protection of NATO and European Union interests".

The Noju23 was planned from 2020: it will be held from 27 April to 14 May and "it will be a logistic exercise, which takes place every year in a different country and will consist in the deployment of NATO forces in order to verify the ability to move forces abroad within allied territory. In the final part, fire drills are also planned which», it is assured, «will be carried out in full compliance with the rules, protocols and Stanags (Standardization Agriculture) of NATO".

The entry airports of the troops will be those of Elmas and Decimomannu and the port used for the influx of vehicles and materials,
with the use of three Ro-Ro ships, it will be Cagliari
, above all, but something will also pass through Olbia. About 3,000 men are expected and Germany, Holland, Latvia, Greece, the Czech Republic, Norway and Luxembourg will participate. The areas affected by the exercise will be the firing ranges of Quirra and Capo Teulada, the Decimomannu air base and the Alghero site: the exercise will be managed by the NATO Command in Naples.

On Jost 23, connected to NATO, the admiral explained that «its purpose is to improve readiness, integration and interoperability between the Armed Forces, other entities responsible for security and other public organizations. It will take place between 08 and 26 May 2023 and will be divided into two phases: the first with the simulation of a humanitarian crisis with the protection of the national territory, the second, more of a military nature, where the need to defend the spaces of the covenant".

It was assured that "both exercises will be conducted in full compliance with the protection standards envisaged for the population and the environment and all necessary measures will be taken to safeguard the areas in which the activities are concentrated".

For Agostini it is necessary to underline «the positive economic impact on the territory that the presence of thousands of people will ensure with the supply of meals, laundry services, building works to improve hospitality, all services provided locally».

General Scanu, who is president of Comipa, also took the floor. The report explains that it underlined the " extraordinary opportunity represented by these international activities, with the possibility that foreign personnel, after having visited our territories, can then return to the island for private reasons and for pleasure". As far as the municipalities concerned are concerned, he underlines the positive economic fallout deriving from the logistic services that will be provided in favor of the troops and ensures the maximum commitment of the Defense in the field of environmental protection".
