"Insufficient" staff to safely reopen the Orthopedics department at San Francesco .

The ASL of Nuoro intervenes in the case of Giuseppa Deiana, the 85-year-old from Nuoro who, after fracturing her femur, waited for over 32 hours in the emergency room of San Francesco before being transferred to Marino in Alghero.

The health company of the Barbagia capital almost opens its arms, it is essentially disarmed . Will try to improve the service, but can't do much.

«Currently – it is explained in a note – the complex Orthopedics structure can count on three hospital orthopedists on duty, an insufficient number to reopen the department safely . We are taking action to find a solution, but we cannot reopen without respecting the safety criteria."

The ASL specifies that numerous orthopedic patients have arrived at San Francesco in recent days, so several transfers to other regional facilities have been arranged. «It should be noted – explains the local health authority – that each patient has different clinical needs and, before being transferred, requires diagnostic investigations, anesthetic and/or cardiological consultations, so that they can be treated quickly in the receiving facilities. In some cases we respected the correct times, in the lady's case (for various reasons) we were not as quick as we would have liked ."

Finally, the health company apologizes for what happened and explains that the cases of last weekend were used «to analyze the problems that emerged and issue internal circulars that will be used to improve the service ».
