«Attracted to the mission from a young age, he accepted in a spirit of obedience to leave for Brazil, living charity towards others as a worship rendered to God».

This is one of the reasons why Pope Leo XIV proclaimed the Sardinian priest Angelo Angioni (1915-2008) “Venerable Servant of God”.

Angioni, born in Bortigali and raised in Ozieri , where he entered the seminary, was ordained a priest in 1938.

"When, during the Holy Year of 1950, he was sent to Rome by the bishop of Ozieri to request a mission place for the Oblates," recalls the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints , " the diocese of São José do Rio Preto, Brazil , was indicated to him, as it needed priests. The following year, as a fidei donum priest, he joined first as a cooperator and then as parish priest in the parish of São João Batista do Rio Preto, where he exercised his ministry until his death."

"He – it is remembered – realized his missionary ideal by engaging not only in pastoral activity but also in the social and educational fields, promoting the creation of a parish school and starting the Missionary Institute of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, made up of priests, deacons, contemplative nuns, and lay people."
