Tia Caicca Garau (91 years old), one of the last wearers of the characteristic red woolen dress, passed away in Desulo .

Single, she dedicated her life to her family and to sewing, embroidering the local costume. Strongly linked to traditions and faith, she has never separated herself from the colors of her community, wearing them for decades, with the last appearance on Palm Sunday .

On Thursday afternoon, hundreds of fellow villagers were present at the funeral , officiated by Don Marco Floris, in the parish of Sant'Antonio Abate. Desulo loses a piece of history, capable of attracting the curiosity of many who, passing through the town, immortalized it with shots that later became very popular.

There are several memories of these hours on social media: «A piece of Sardinian history is gone – wrote a citizen – the women of Desulo wore the tradition every day . A veil of nostalgia and sadness remains."

«For Tia Caicca it is a collective mourning – says the mayor Gian Cristian Melis -, a cheerful person has left us, who knew our town and its customs well. We will miss his smile and his walk with his typical costume, as well as his good advice. Her example is what we have left and for this we are grateful."
