Expensive energy does not only cause difficulties for families and shopkeepers, but also for the municipalities that provide services to citizens every day.

The mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu says he is "seriously worried", and launches his proposal: "That the Single Fund for Local Authorities be increased by 25% , with restricted resources, in order to face this epochal emergency".

"An example - continues the mayor - are the expenses to guarantee public lighting in the Municipality of Cagliari, which now go from 2 to 6 million euros . We are talking about an increase of 300% and this despite many contracts being at a fixed price" .

"These are figures - concludes the mayor - that are difficult to sustain. We risk having to cut school, transport, social assistance, security or, alternatively, we will have to turn off the lighting in our cities".

In the small municipalities, several mayors have already run for cover. Francesco Caggiari, mayor of Bortigali , has decided that public lighting will be guaranteed only in the streets with the greatest traffic: "All this - he explained - to keep the municipal budget intact and avoid a dangerous deficit".
