Olive growing is inexorably being reborn, three years after the terrible fire that brought the area to its knees. A bit of optimism for the regrowth of the sector, Cuglieri's strategic economic asset, and the new olive growing plant that has just been reconstituted represents a concrete act of trust in the future: new opportunities for work and life.
In the Mediagheddu area along state road 292, three funds of 7 thousand square meters and around 300 plants each were inaugurated, in the presence of the presidents of the Montiferru Association Pier Paolo Arca, of FASI Bastianino Mossa, of Unpli Sardegna Raffaele Sestu, and of Sardinia-Japan Island Association Giovanni Piliarvu. Innovative systems with modern drip irrigation technology, with underground pipes that focus on sustainability and the good use of water resources to cope with the climate crisis and increasingly frequent dry seasons.
By the end of the year, five modules will be put back into production with the typical varieties grown: Bosana, Semidana and Nera di Villacidro, for a total of over three and a half hectares.
The modern olive grove was created thanks to the solidarity of FASI, the Federation of Sardinian associations in Italy, the Sardinia-Japan Association of Tokyo and the National Pro Loco Union of Italy, Sardinia section. They collected 32 thousand euros in donations which were then donated to the Montiferru Association which, since that infamous July three years ago, has been on the front line for the environmental regeneration and economic-social reconstitution of the territory.
Bastianino Mossa, president of Fasi, proud of the Montiferru project: «It is one of our missions, we have followed it in all its evolutionary phases. It is a virtuous example that shows that even with few resources you can do important and sustainable things, which bind the Sardinians on the island even more closely with those beyond the Tyrrhenian Sea."
For the Montiferru Association, president Pier Paolo Arca comments: «seeing a field that restarts thanks to solidarity is a small victory for all of us. A signal that man and nature can work together to recreate beauty."
