Prison sentences confirmed for 13 of the 14 Nigerians investigated in Sassari on charges of, among others, mafia-style criminal association and drug trafficking.
The investigating judge Gian Paolo Piana ordered the non-EU citizens to remain in Bancali, rejecting the defense's request for nullity of the arrest request because it was not translated into English. According to the judge, in fact, the suspects have been living in Italy for some time and have carried out professions in contact with the public that therefore required the ability to speak Italian .
The magistrate ordered house arrest for only one suspect.
The investigation, which began in 2018 and was conducted by several Italian police stations with the operations center in Sassari, led to the arrest of 30 Nigerians last Tuesday between the capital of Sassari and the national territory.
According to the charges, there would have been a mafia association - Supreme Viking Confraternity - dedicated in particular to drug trafficking between the capital of Turritano, the peninsula, Europe, Mauritania and Nigeria. The lawyers of the 14 suspects are Carlo Pinna Parpaglia, Elisabetta Udassi, Francesco Sasso, Adina Barbu and Giuseppe Onorato.
