Sardinia is one of the three Italian regions - with Lazio and Veneto - in which the highest incidence of coronavirus infections is recorded: there are 922.7 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. In yesterday's bulletin another 2,569 positives were recorded, 7,690 tests processed, more than one swab in three is positive.

There are three factors that determine the spread of the virus: the most transmissible sub-variants of Omicron, the absence of restrictions, and the use of do-it-yourself tests with consequent absence of communication of the positivity which in many cases corresponds to the lack of isolation of who is infected.

"In these conditions - underlines Luigi Minerba, epidemiologist of the university hospital of Cagliari -, precisely because we only have a partial picture of the infections, it is also difficult to predict when the peak will be ".

Self-diagnosis, which is very widespread, actually prevents tracking and the chances of spreading the infection are increased.

However, Sardinia is currently below the national average for the occupancy of beds in the medical area (7.6%), but that of intensive care is above the Italian average (3.9%).
