Sister Teresa Tambelli, who worked for 57 years at the Maria-Stampace Nursery in Cagliari, has been declared Venerable. The Holy See announced this through the Bulletin of the Press Office. Venerable is the title that the Catholic Church, and more precisely the Pope, confers, post mortem, on people who have distinguished themselves for "sanctity of life" or "heroic life", and for whom it has initiated the process of beatification.
Sister Teresa, born Maria Olga, was born in Revere, in the province of Mantua, in Lombardy.
At 18, she entered the Daughters of Charity of Turin. In 1904, after her novitiate, she received the order to go on a mission to the Provincial House of Turin. From 1904 to 1907, she worked in Casale Monferrato, while in 1907, at 23, she was transferred to Cagliari to the Marina-Stampace Nursery where she accompanied the children to Mass, teaching them catechism, instructing the little ones on mercy and helping the city in a concrete way during the bombings of 1943, which devastated much of the urban fabric.
Sister Tambelli died in Cagliari in February 1964, leaving a great memory in the people who met and knew her.
