A caretta caretta turtle laid its eggs around 8.30pm on July 22nd on the Costa Rei beach, near the Capo Ferrato campsite.

Two guests of the campsite noticed this and alerted the reception. Hence the call to the Forestry Corps which immediately intervened to make the nest safe. Also on site were volunteers from the Environmental Guards of Villasimius and experts from the protected marine area of Capo Carbonara.

Biologists are also working with special equipment to make sure that the turtle, in addition to having built a nest, has actually laid its eggs.

It is not the first time that the Caretta caretta has chosen the wonderful beach of Costa Rei to nest.
