The turtle "Carletto" is back in the wild.

The young specimen of Caretta caretta was recovered on 16 February in the Gulf of Asinara. And today, "after a period of observation by the sea turtle recovery center of the Asinara National Park", Carletto was released in Punta Lunga, "returning him to his natural habitat", as specified by the regional defense councilor of the environment, Marco Porcu, present this morning at the ceremony.

The specimen of Caretta caretta, weighing just two kilos, had been recovered and treated by the veterinarians of the Center because it had difficulty diving and had been transferred to the Sea Observatory in the Park to carry out all the clinical tests.

"The activity of protection and safeguard of the Caretta caretta turtles is taken care of by the 'Regional network for the conservation of marine fauna', with the coordination of the Regional Department and the collaboration of the Forestry Corps and the Port Authorities - added the commissioner Porcu - The beaches of Sardinia are often chosen by this species also for nesting, as proof of the excellent state of health of our coasts, where they find the right climatic conditions. In the coming weeks, taking advantage of the climatic conditions and the still limited nautical traffic, other specimens of turtles will be returned to their natural environment. The Region has been engaged for some time on the theme of marine biodiversity, which represents a factor of environmental wealth".
