There is a project for the rebirth of the Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari. The document was approved by the Municipal Council of Massimo Zedda, at the instigation of the Councilor for Culture Maria Francesca Chiappe.
There are two levels of intervention. The first, immediate, concerns the work needed "for a rapid opening of the site as an archaeological park and container for cultural events". So concerts, but not only. The other instead looks to a broader future and outlines " long-term scenarios that highlight the potential of the monument as an urban piece, achievable through large-scale interventions that also involve the administrations of the other sites present in the area". The Botanical Garden in the lead. Four million euros are available.
The resolution of Palazzo Bacaredda is accompanied by numerous attached reports. It includes "interventions to regulate the water and safeguard the slopes above", "restoration of the podium wall and redevelopment and safety of the first ambulatory", the "restoration of the boundary wall with the botanical garden" and, last but not least, "the creation of a performance area that uses the arena as a stage for events and the setting up of a green stalls in the missing section of the cavea". The maximum capacity is estimated at 800-1000 spectators to "maintain the function of hosting cultural performances but reducing their scope".
The entrance will be the driveway on Viale Fra' Ignazio, which will also be made accessible to the disabled. The Council also gives the green light to the "restructuring of the service block deemed essential for the functionality of the area, as a space for shows and events it will have to maintain the entire volume existing today". In the future, a single path will be created that will include the Amphitheater and the Botanical Garden.
