He stole the cell phone of a 36-year-old woman in Piazza Bonaria in Cagliari, then contacted her, specifying that he would return the device only if he paid a sum of money . The man, a 52-year-old of Algerian origin, was tracked down by the Carabinieri and arrested.

The victim, contacted by the man regarding the attempted extortion using the so-called "return horse" method, did not hesitate to report the incident to the police. The Carabinieri's investigation led to the identification of the 52-year-old man on Via XX Settembre. A search of his home found him in possession of the cell phone stolen from the victim.

Once the incident had been reconstructed, the man was then escorted to the barracks and, once the usual formalities had been completed, held in the holding cells pending the hearing with a fast-track procedure as ordered by the Judicial Authority.
