No one had noticed his presence. Tiny, defenseless, his eyes still closed to the world, Nerino waited silently inside a garbage bag . He couldn't have known it, but for him life had already written a different ending: a happy ending, a real one. It all began this morning on Via Santa Gilla, in Cagliari. Bubu, a dog on a walk with his owner, suddenly stopped in front of a garbage can. He sniffed, he sniffed, he insisted. His frantic wagging tail was a clear message: there was something in there. And he needed help. A few moments later, the discovery: wrapped in a plastic bag, covered in dust, a puppy the size of a hand emerged . His eyes still sealed, a sign of his age: just a few days old.
The scene unfolded right in front of the Le Plus Bon restaurant in Piazza L'Unione Sarda , where customers and staff immediately mobilized. "What do we do? Is he okay? Where can we take him?" were the questions that began to ricochet between phone calls to the local police, volunteers, and friends who "know what they're talking about" and always know him. The story moved everyone: such a small, vulnerable puppy, found by chance. And then, the gesture that changed everything. A young woman, moved by the scene and without much hesitation, decided to take care of him. To become his new "mom." "It all happened in just under an hour," those present recount. A breath, a few caresses, and Nerino's life (who will probably now also have a new name) took a completely different direction.
From unfortunate puppy to beloved dog, with a family ready to welcome him. A short story of kindness and instinct, reminding us that—fortunately—there's still room for heartfelt adoptions.
