At the moment it is not known which strain spread on the hills of Cagliari. It is certainly of the H5 type: it will be the subsequent alphanumeric sequence, which will emerge from the analyzes on the samples, to establish whether it is a highly transmissible type, therefore more worrying, or not.

"Currently, in-depth examinations are underway on its typing at the national reference center for avian flu, in Padua", the Region said.

This morning's meeting was attended by the technicians of the regional health department, the Asl 8, the Izs and the national reference center for avian.

“The active surveillance measures, on live animals, and passive ones, through research and investigation on dead animals, are already operational", explains the regional health councilor, Mario Nieddu, ".

There is a risk of diffusion. “In these hours, further actions will be defined, also with the involvement of the Forestry Corps and Forestas”, adds the commissioner, “to extend the investigations on the territory. During the meeting, the technicians however highlighted the low zoonotic risk, i.e. the risk of infection from animals to humans: according to scientific evidence, it propagates by air through the dust produced by the feces and through contact with infected animals. ".
