One of the two homeless men who attacked a young Senegalese man with broken glass yesterday in Piazza del Carmine in Cagliari has been arrested. The man, a Sardinian already known to the area, was taken to Uta prison on charges of grievous bodily harm.

The attack occurred while the injured young man was in the square with a fellow Italian man who had intervened to break up a fight between the attacker and a woman . According to the reconstruction, the man picked up a bottle from the ground, broke it, and lunged at the two men, hitting the young man full in the face.

The police and an ambulance immediately arrived on the scene. The injured man was taken to Brotzu Hospital with a yellow code. Fortunately, his condition is not serious.

Authorities have begun investigations, while residents have expressed concern about the growing tension in Piazza del Carmine.
