The news of Anas' decision to "hood" the 30 km/h signs along the former Orientale Sarda between kilometres 16 and 51 can only arouse moderate satisfaction (and new hopes) in Burcei .
A satisfaction expressed yesterday by the mayor Simone Monni who has been carrying out a series of contacts with Anas and the Metropolitan City for some time. At the same time, the "New Road Committee" has decided to temporarily suspend the announced protests.
"The cancellation of the 30 km/h signs - said Mayor Monni - was expected. It could not be postponed in time given the obvious inconveniences our motorists have been forced to endure to reach Cagliari and the hinterland for work, school, and healthcare in particular. The latest contacts with the Metropolitan City are also satisfactory: next summer - adds the mayor - work will begin on the Sinnai-Maracalagonis road. We have been in constant contact with the Metropolitan City, which has always shown itself to be close to our problems, despite a bureaucracy that weighs down all public works. The new road will join Burcei in Via Lussu, where we are already planning the work to fix it ."
THE BACKGROUND – A story that began many years ago when the entrepreneur-publisher Sergio Zuncheddu delivered to the then Prefectural Commissioner of the Municipality of Burcei the first draft of the project for the construction of the road, intended to halve the current distances with Cagliari and the Hinterland (with obvious mutual advantages for all) and to remove the town from its isolation.
In the meantime, the Citizens' Committee, created to help defend Burcei from its state of isolation, has released a document on the issue, which states that "rather than limiting users to a speed of 30 km/h for long stretches, the Anas that manages the roads has provided that the speed limit be introduced only in construction areas where work is planned and for the time strictly necessary for its execution."
"The mobilization of citizens through the Committee has produced an important first result" says Vittorio Monni. "In addition to the announced demonstrations, we have brought our problems to the Regional Council where, through the interest of the Regional Councilors Peru, Tunis and Urpi, a question was presented with a request for a written response to President Todde and the Councilor for Public Works".
The question highlights the problems that the citizens of Burcere would be forced to face due to the planned works and asks for intervention to mitigate their effects.
"The questioning also took the opportunity to reiterate the importance of speeding up the work on the new road , a central point of our commitment," Monni continues, "and even in this case it would seem that something is moving. After the start of the work in the Maracalagonis area, in fact, we received news that the construction work on the new road will begin in July."
"But the Committee will ensure that the commitments made are respected - says Salvatore Malloru - and that what was achieved with this mobilization has been followed up in practice. The ordinance and the reassurances on the start of the works are only a first step: our commitment continues anyway".
Meanwhile, the Committee also urges "the maintenance of the stretch of road that leads from "Campu Omu" to the town , without the so-called "cat's eyes", an element that - Andrea Lobina points out - makes transit dangerous at night and in the presence of fog". "Furthermore - he specifies - the guard rails that for long stretches of the road are rusty and crumbling should be replaced".
"We are not second-class citizens – continues Ignazio Saddi – it is time that our rights are respected and our needs are taken into serious consideration ".
The mobilization continues and the state of agitation remains but, considering the first results achieved and the reassurances obtained, the demonstrations scheduled for the moment are suspended . It is an opening of credit towards the Institutions by virtue of the first results obtained.
"We take this opportunity to thank the Administration for these results, but no one here is lowering their guard ," the representatives of the Committee say in unison. "We are ready to take to the streets and make our voices heard to protect our rights. Burcei needs a change of pace from the institutions and respect for the commitments made and we are here to ensure that this happens."
