The bomb placed around one in the morning in front of the Ottana town hall was packed with three or four kilos of explosives . This is what emerges from an initial inspection by the carabinieri of the local company and the Nuoro Investigation Unit.

The bomb caused serious damage to the external part of the building and the ground floor, shattering glass, doors and furnishings . The building would not have suffered any structural damage, at the end of an initial external examination by the Fire Brigade it was deemed fit for use , but to be sure we must wait for the load tests on the upper floors, which will be carried out on Monday morning.

Investigations to trace the attackers have already begun, investigators have acquired footage from video surveillance cameras and the prefect of Nuoro Giancarlo Dionisi also arrived on site this morning and convened the Committee for Public Order and Security on Monday morning at 10.30am. .

Dionisi speaks of a "very serious matter", expressing "the utmost closeness to the mayor" Franco Saba. «On Monday – he added – we will take stock of the situation, but I can say that this is not a hot area. The last bomb attack against an administrator dates back to 2010, so it was a bolt from the blue . Naturally we will do our in-depth investigations both to reach a solution to the case as soon as possible and to understand what is behind this attack in the town."

The administration led by Saba has been in office since 2020 and Ottana will return to the vote in 2025, therefore the serious act of intimidation has no connection with the imminent electoral round which will affect 28 Municipalities in Sardinia.

According to what has emerged in recent hours from investigative circles, the explosion has no connection even with the protests underway in the Nuoro area against the installation of renewable energy plants.

THE REACTIONS

«I am very disappointed – the words of the mayor Franco Saba – and with me the whole administration. Ottana doesn't deserve this, but we will continue to work as we always have. And if anyone has to complain, do so publicly."

Harsh condemnation was expressed by the President in pectore of the Region Alessandra Todde : «A vile attack on the whole community , violence cannot and must not find space in our society and in our communities. I express closeness and solidarity to the mayor and all the citizens of Ottana."

The mayor of Nuoro Andrea Soddu speaks of a "vile attack on the community as a whole". "In this moment of difficulty - underlines Soddu, expressing his solidarity with his colleague - we must remain united and determined in countering any form of violence and in affirming the values of democracy and civil coexistence".

Even the PD deputy Silvio Lai expresses his solidarity with the mayor for the "very serious act of intimidation", then points the finger at the Government : "It would do well to keep the many promises on the security front. He doesn't seem capable of protecting public order and local administrators while persecuting student marches or poor migrants fleeing wars."

«Episodes like this have been repeating themselves for too long to the detriment of local administrators and we can no longer tolerate these forms of violence – underlines Salvatore Deidda , president of the IX Transport Commission of the Chamber and deputy of FdI -. I strongly condemn this cowardly act and hope that those responsible will be severely punished."

Closeness and solidarity also came from Dario Giagoni , deputy of the League , who spoke of a "deplorable gesture" which "deeply affects the entire community of Ottavia, it is an act of intimidation perpetrated primarily against those who firmly believe in the noble value of the institutions and work. I am absolutely certain that fear and violence will never be able to stop the desire to fight courageously in the service of one's people, they will never be able to overcome the good will of honest citizens who look at the work of administrations with hope and trust. In hoping that those responsible will be promptly identified, I can only hope that this trail of attitudes unworthy of a civil society will stop immediately."

«I would like to express my feeling of solidarity with the mayor Franco Saba and the entire community of Ottana in these difficult hours. Once again we find ourselves faced with an uncivilized and cowardly gesture with which the authors place themselves outside of normal democratic dialectics. Dialectic that certainly cannot be violated by those who act in the shadows and with violent acts. I am sure that the mayor and all of Ottana will be able to respond with courage and determination to this cowardly attack", is the statement by Ugo Cappellacci , deputy and national manager of the insularity department of Forza Italia.
