There could be a murder behind the death of Antonietta Canu, the 71-year-old from Alghero who disappeared on 13 July and whose lifeless body was found on 4 September.

The autopsy performed yesterday on the woman's body revealed some elements that would suggest the hypothesis of a crime.

There is also a suspect in the matter: it is Antonio Cataldi, a 34-year-old man who is the victim's nephew.

The body of Antonietta Canu, found on 4 September, was in an advanced state of decomposition in an uncultivated land a few hundred meters from her home in the hamlet of Maristella.

Cataldi lived with his aunt in that house, the deputy prosecutor Enrica Angioni entered him in the register of suspects for voluntary murder after the man answered in an unconvincing way to the questions of the carabinieri of the Alghero Company.

The suspicion is that the elderly woman was killed, her body kept hidden for weeks and then taken to the place where it was found.

More precise elements may emerge from the report on the necropsy report which will be delivered to the Public Prosecutor's Office by 15 November.
