New screening day today for Sardinian students in view of the return to class scheduled for tomorrow, as established by the ordinance issued on Wednesday by the President of the Region, Christian Solinas. Dozens of health workers involved in the various hubs and centers of the island.

A first data, still partial, indicates 67,979 antigenic tests carried out on as many students: 17,969 in the ASL of Cagliari, 9,504 in the ASL Gallura, 1,945 Asl Medio Campidano, 8,958 Asl Nuoro, 1,187 Asl Ogliastra, 6,585 Asl Oristano, 16,264 Asl Sassari, 5,567 Asl Sulcis. The number of positives detected by the antigen test is currently around 2%. The positive subjects were taken in charge by the Sisp (Hygiene and Public Health Services) for the execution of the molecular test which will confirm or not the detected infections. The screening will continue even after the resumption of teaching activities scheduled for tomorrow.

"The organizational and logistical skills gained on the occasion of the 'Sardis and safe' screening campaign have allowed us to prepare in a very short time a large-scale monitoring of a large part of the student population - declares the President of the Sardinia Region, Christian Solinas - . It was not an easy operation, but thanks to the collaboration of all the actors in the field, starting with the mayors, health workers and volunteers, we have also succeeded in this undertaking. With their participation, our young people and their families have once again given a signal of great responsibility, confirming what has already been recorded in the vaccination campaign that sees us among the regions with the highest number of vaccinated in the lower age groups ".

"A great effort was made to carry out such a vast screening activity in a short time - the words of the regional health councilor, Mario Nieddu - but it was a necessary effort. The data on the infections detected tell us that it is possible to resume face-to-face activities, without excluding the use of distance learning in all those targeted cases justified by a more serious epidemiological framework. Obviously, the utmost prudence and compliance with all anti-contagion measures adopted so far must be maintained. The situation will continue to be monitored with the utmost attention and above all we will vigorously continue the vaccination campaign, which remains our strongest weapon against a virus that still represents a threat ".

THE PROTEST - Meanwhile, the students are asking to return to distance learning and for tomorrow a day of strike has been proclaimed in Cagliari in high schools. "The situation of the pandemic in this historical period is completely out of control - explains Alessandro Frongia, president of the Provincial Council of Cagliari and representative of the" De Sanctis-Deledda "institute - not to mention the Sardinian transport system, which is not in able to satisfy students' demand for mobility. School structures are unable to guarantee minimum distancing standards ".

Also from Capoterra, the students of the "Sergio Atzeni" institute ask that the return in attendance be postponed "given the pandemic situation in progress and above all given the impossibility of guaranteeing the safety of means of transport (small and always full) and school environments (too small in relation to the number of pupils, not guaranteeing the respect of the meter of distance from each other in many classes) ".

"We believe - the representatives of the Institute Maria Alessia Manca, Michele Porcu, Giuseppe Atzori and Gaia Montis write in a note - it is better to stay at home for two weeks following the lessons in DAD, rather than having to go there either because infected, or because contact with positives. For us, the DAD solution is currently the best one, not only for our health but also for that of those around us ".

In Nuoro, however, the mayor Andrea Soddu has ordered that the schools will reopen in person only when all the screening on the students of the province has been completed.

Here is the situation Municipality by Municipality.

ORISTANO - 2,300 swabs were carried out at the Oristano vaccination hub. The students found positive for the rapid test are 50 and now they will have to undergo the molecular test. The data was communicated by the ASL to the mayor of Oristano Andrea Lutzu. On the basis of the data communicated by the health authorities, without prejudice to any decisions by the Region or the Government, Mayor Lutzu has decided to confirm the return to class of the Oristano students for tomorrow, Monday 10 January. "We continue to monitor the situation and we will be ready to intervene if the spread of the virus makes it necessary," said Mayor Lutzu.

SENORBÌ - Back to school, screening for students begins in Senorbì. Appointment tomorrow at 9 in the vaccination hub in via Vittoria Nenni (near the Renato Sirigu sports field) where the first day of voluntary screening of the resident school population will be held. From Tuesday, in agreement with the respective school administrators, monitoring will take place in the individual institutions. Interested parties must present themselves with a health card: the consent form will be delivered at the moment. As was widely expected, Covid cases during the holidays also rose significantly in Trexenta.

The municipal administrations of the area are working hard to promote initiatives aimed at mitigating the effects of the resurgence of the virus, also due to the new Omicron variant which seems to spread much faster. The aim is to protect the school population as much as possible, also considering the presence in Senorbì of schools of all levels. In recent days, screenings aimed at students were also held in Selegas (an initiative promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the “Lago e Nuraghe” cooperative), Ortacesus, Mandas and Guasila.

ALGHERO - The two-day screening of students from Alghero schools ended at 2 pm. In total, 2075 swabs were performed and 53 positives were detected, equal to 2.55% (data still unofficial, the municipality specifies).

“We hope - explains the mayor Conoci - that these data will allow the health authorities to carry out all the necessary assessments on the progress of the pandemic with respect to school activities. This screening also represented a proof of efficiency and great collaboration between health institutions and the municipal administration, which has already been successfully tested in the Mariotti vaccination hub. A heartfelt thanks goes to the health and administrative operators of the ASL, to the municipal collaborators and to our volunteers who, with very short notice, have organized and given the availability to make this further activity possible to protect the health of all of us ".

SETTIMO SAN PIETRO - 295 rapid swabs were carried out in the council chamber of the Municipality of Settimo as part of the screening of school groups in view of the opening of schools after the Christmas holidays. Nine positivity emerged and have already been reported to the ATS. Molecular swabs will then follow to confirm or not the same positivity. The screening was made possible thanks to the availability of doctors, nurses and voluntary associations who accepted the invitation of the municipal administration and made themselves available free of charge.

BURCEI - Three positives out of 180 quick swabs carried out among school groups today in Burcei. The City had asked for 350 swabs. The ASL will now take care of contacting positive patients and carrying out the tracking. The screening proposed by the ASL after the ordinance of the President of the Region Christian Solinas was carried out thanks to the availability of medical and nursing staff who provided the service for free: Nando Maxia, Ramona Zucca and Maddalena Lorrai. The volunteers of the Confraternity of Mercy of Burcei and of Masise collaborated. Tomorrow also in Burcei we go back to school with a rather comforting result.

SINNAI - 617 rapid swabs were carried out between Saturday and Sunday among the Sinnai school groups in the context of the screening proposed by the ASL on the order of the President of the Region: 16 positive cases, with the tests that must now be verified with a molecular swab by of the Asl. Volunteer doctors and nurses and the local police have been mobilized in Sinnai, the Municipality. About 380 quick swabs that the municipality intends to use remained unused.

MARACALAGONIS - In Maracalagonis 486 tests were performed with seven positive cases, now awaiting confirmation or not with molecular swab. Also in Maracalagonis, the two days were organized thanks to the collaboration of volunteer doctors and nurses with the collaboration of the local police and voluntary associations.

SELARGIUS - The second day of screening on school groups ended in Selargius awaiting the return to school scheduled for tomorrow. On the subject there is a speech by the mayor Gigi Concu. “We conclude the second day of screening with a total of 1613 tests carried out and 47 positives awaiting confirmation of the molecular. Numbers that - except for different governmental and regional provisions - will bring our schools to restart tomorrow, after the long Christmas break. A return that, beyond the cold numbers, inevitably brings with it legitimate and understandable fears, yours as well as mine, accompanied by the question of questions: 'Is it the right thing?' ".

“This is what I, like probably many other mayors, have been asking myself more or less daily for the past two years. Today - adds the mayor - as well as whenever I find myself forced to make decisions that are perhaps contestable and difficult to understand for those on the other side, but inevitable; me too. Because in the end we are all at the mercy of events, of the contagion data that after making us hope for the state of 'Covid-free' suddenly make records that take us back in time, making us understand with arrogance that even a mayor is powerless. He is powerless in the face of so many requests to which he cannot answer, and to your - sacrosanct - need for normality common to all that I would so much like to be able to assure you. Unfortunately I don't have this power, I can only try to protect you with the weapons - few - that I have at my disposal and ask you once again to be cautious ".

And then the wishes of Mayor Concu to the boys: “Greetings to all. To you guys who have the right to resume lessons in the presence but also in safety; to you teachers who found yourselves teaching what no book had told. And to you parents, certainly bewildered and probably frightened ”.
