Sardinia is also preparing for a day of mobilization, with a general strike called for today by the USB, with demonstrations in Cagliari , Sassari , and Nuoro . This is an international protest against arms trafficking, rearmament, and the militarization of ports, but also aims to bring the cost of living, wages, pensions, and the financing of public services back to the forefront.
In Cagliari, alongside the workers, various social and student groups will take to the streets (the Sardinian Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, students from schools in Cagliari and Sassari, Gioventude de Sardinia, Potere al Popolo, A Foras, Sardigna Global Sumud, the Committee for the Rights of Educators, and Young Palestinians of Sardinia), as well as the Pratobello 24 Committees, which are protesting energy speculation. A massive turnout is expected, and law enforcement has deployed a significant public order force.
The march, sponsored by USB Sardinia, will begin at 9:30 a.m. from Piazza Garibaldi and pass through Via Garibaldi, Piazza Costituzione, Via Manno, Piazza Yenne, Largo Carlo Felice, and Via Roma, concluding at the port, in the parking area between Molo Sant'Agostino and Calata Sant'Agostino. A demonstration against the maritime transport of weapons is planned at the crossing near Piazza Matteotti. This demonstration is in line with the international "Ports in Action" initiative, which, according to USB, will take place in over 100 ports in 19 countries.
