Judge Gabriele Bordiga has authorized the interruption of all medical treatments for Andrea Manca, the 58-year-old trade unionist from Solarussa who has been in a vegetative state for over two years, a condition that when he was in his full powers he had defined a "non-life" that he would never have wanted face.

To comply with Andrea's always stated wishes, his brother Alessandro, his support administrator, had asked the judge to interrupt the medical treatments (based on law 219 of 2017 on informed consent and advance treatment provisions).

It all started in the summer of two years ago when the Covid, which was raging at the time, hit Andrea.

On July 22, 2021, a cardiac arrest had taken over, which quickly led the trade unionist to a vegetative state and total dependence on machinery.

After long hospital stays, Manca was admitted to the RSA di Milis where he is still and where the end-of-life procedure will be practiced with all the indications prescribed by the judge.

«The special curator lawyer Valerio Martis, appointed by Judge Dr. Gabriele Bordiga, declares: “Andrea Manca's wishes have been respected. Although the issue is particularly divisive, the ruling also presents appreciable profiles that will make it possible to raise awareness among citizens and institutions on the issue of end of life and the necessary strengthening of palliative care. It will now be necessary to concentrate every effort precisely to guarantee Mr. Manca the least possible suffering".
