This morning a 118 ambulance, headed from Galtellì to the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro, was blocked for over 52 minutes after the Orune junction due to a rear-end collision in the Marreri tunnel, between a Citroen and a Fiat 600.

An accident without adequate reporting. The situation was particularly critical, as the ambulance carried a woman with a serious head injury, a condition that required rapid and timely intervention. Despite the seriousness of the situation and the urgency of the transport, there were no police forces on site to manage the accident, nor were emergency lanes opened to allow the emergency vehicle to pass.

The lack of adequate signage on that stretch of road, combined with the lack of support from the competent authorities, caused a significant delay, forcing the ambulance to wait a full 52 minutes, while normally the journey between the Lula junction and the San Francesco hospital takes just 22 minutes.

This situation raises very serious concerns about safety and emergency management. The delay and inability to intervene promptly in a critical code such as that of the patient could have fatal consequences. The report reiterates the need to ensure a rapid and safe passage for ambulances, especially on stretches of road such as those at the gates of Nuoro where the endless work on the 131 dcn creates bottlenecks and danger.

It is urgent that measures are taken to prevent such disruptions from further compromising the outcome of health emergencies, thus protecting the lives of those in need of rapid and life-saving intervention.
