The operations to remove the posidonia from the beaches of the Alghero coast have begun, in view of the start of the tourist season.

In view of the arrival of Easter and the first tourists, the municipal administration has decided not to wait for the completion of the 850 thousand euro tender for the management of the three-year service, for which offers are expected to open on April 20.

A short contract was made to start the cleaning work, thanks to which the vehicles were already in motion yesterday. The leaves will initially be accumulated close to the shoreline, also to protect from the storm surges that historically affect the Alghero coast in the spring period, providing protection to the beach, and then be definitively removed once dry.

"The beached material is far below the average recorded in recent years and this will help us with the work to be carried out", explains the Councilor for the Environment, Andrea Montis. At the same time, the dismantling of the storage sites outside the beach also continued.

Up to now 4,800 tons of posidonia have been treated with the washing plant and about 3,000 tons of sand to be returned to the beaches of origin.

In the next few days the Municipality will also participate in the G20 of seaside resorts, scheduled in Riccione, bringing to national attention the experience of managing the beached posidonia and the recovery of the sand to be returned to the beaches.
